Mr. Satterlee is a Certified Forensic Interviewer, a credential awarded by the International Association of Interviewers (IAI), who honorably retired from the Austin Police Department (APD) as a sergeant in 2018 after being promoted through numerous roles of varying complexity and scope. During his 23 years with the APD, he led and/or partnered on hundreds of criminal and civil investigations, created and facilitated educational programs for the Police Academy, and developed classes that were launched at various local educational institutions, including Austin Community College and Georgetown High School. Additionally, he received two “Honorable Conduct” awards.

Mr. Satterlee joined the APD as a Patrol Officer in 1995, where he enforced federal, state, and local laws and assisted with investigations from various cross-functional units. In 2007, he was promoted into a Child Abuse Criminal Investigator role – where he received a “Superior Service” award – and in 2009, he shifted to a Financial Crimes Criminal Investigator position. In these roles, Mr. Satterlee partnered with the U.S. Secret Service and other state, national, and international law enforcement agencies to investigate myriad financial and abuse crimes. He collected and analyzed evidence, interviewed potential suspects and witnesses, and testified in trials in various courtroom settings.

In 2011, he was promoted to Patrol Corporal, where he led teams of up to 12 patrol officers and assisted leadership in evaluating performance, mentoring emerging talent, ensuring regulatory compliance, and building effective career pathing for employees.

After being promoted to Sergeant, Court Security, Warrants & Fugitives in 2012, Mr. Satterlee led daily operations for a team of 10+ who executed warrants, apprehended fugitives, and ensured safety and security of courtroom operations at multiple sites throughout Austin. Additionally, he developed and implemented risk management policies and processes, deployed officer trainings, and partnered with other police jurisdictions throughout the state of Texas to close cases. He also volunteered to lead a special response team of 10+ who executed crowd control for high-profile government events and assisted with crisis management for numerous efforts, including devastating hurricanes in the Houston area. Notably, he served as an instructor at the Police Academy from 2017 – 2018.

Since retiring from the Austin Police Department in 2018, Mr. Satterlee served as a Level III Armed Security Specialist for Ascension Hospital, where he protected patients and property by de-escalating and defusing emotionally charged and often-dangerous situations.
